Simmons-Longest Endowment Grant
The Simmons-Longest Endowment was established by Gamma Kappa Chapter in October 2020 to acknowledge the contributions of two outstanding NC DKG members, Dr. Gwen Simmons and Pauline Moser Longest.
Dr. Gwen Simmons, former Director of UNC Pembroke Counseling Center, now in private practice, has been active in Delta Kappa Gamma since her initiation in 1979. NC DKG President 1995-1997, she also served as state newsletter editor 1997-2006, initiating statewide newsletter/website camps for training editors and webmasters. As a Professional Registered Parliamentarian, Dr. Simmons served as International Parliamentarian and has lead numerous seminars on parliamentary procedure. Recognized for her service at all levels of the Society, she is never too busy to participate in her own chapter projects and events.
Pauline Moser Longest taught science at the high school and college levels for 40 years. As Eta State (NC DKG) President 1977-1979, she initiated statewide leadership training. Her travels and study tours with DKG and other trips around the world are recorded in her book Going Places. A very generous gift from Pauline Longest and her challenge to all NC members made the organization’s headquarters building in Asheboro a reality. She is remembered for her leadership, generosity, devotion to nurturing others, and her love of travel and DKG.
Simmons-Longest Grants may be awarded to active and retired NC DKG educators in Region VI. This region includes Anson, Cumberland, Harnett, Hoke, Lee, Moore, Robeson, Scotland, and Stanly Counties and Fort Bragg. Grant funding will provide financial support to individuals or projects in professional growth, personal development or self-care, and/or skill development in leadership of self and/or others.
Proposal due January 31st.
